Mustang, a former kingdom beyond the Himalayas
The small former kingdom of Mustang is a region of Tibetan culture. Villages, monasteries, prayer flags, mani walls and chorten with the snowy fortresses of Annapurna and Dhaulagiri in the background.
Due to its geographical situation on the Tibetan plateau, the Mustang has always maintained privileged ties with Lhasa and Tibet, whose border is just few hours away. Caravanserail on the trading route between India and Tibet through the Kali Gandaki gorges, Mustang capital Lomanthang, the walled city, benefited for centuries from taxes and this wealth has been invested in beautiful cultural monuments. Today this heritage is being restored, giving a trip to Mustang a double aspect, a great cultural destination and an incredible open natural space for hiking and trekking.
For us, Mustang is probably the best Himalayan destination today.
