Want to go to Nepal? Where? When? What to do?

With BaseCampTrek, the French and English-speaking travel operator in Kathmandu.

Nepal is a paradise for trekking, hiking, and high-altitude expeditions. But that's not all. It also boasts medieval towns listed as World Heritage Sites in the Kathmandu Valley, major spiritual and religious pilgrimage sites, the jungle where you can still spot the Bengal Tiger, Motorbike tours, Charming lodges in the mid-mountains, themed trips, and more. Not to mention, of course, the incomparable welcome of the Nepalese, in all their cultural, ethnic, and linguistic diversity, who share a discreet charm, natural kindness, and contagious smiles. If we tell you that more than 30% of visitors return for a second, third, or tenth trip to Nepal, it's because something is happening!

Season: March to the end of May and September to December are the dry periods with a temperate climate ideal for hiking, trekking, and mountain views.

To fly to Nepal, there are no direct flights from Europe.
> Vistara, cheaper with a transit in Delhi
> Turkish Airlines via Istanbul
> Qatar or Emirates, little more expensive but with impeccable service.
Note: We recommend booking flights directly with the airline rather than using websites that offer little flexibility in the event of date changes. BaseCampTrek can handle your flight reservations. Just ask us; we're quick to respond!
> Online visas ($30 for 15 days, $50 for 1 month)

Activities that you can experience in Nepal

Hiking and Trekking
> Famous trekking routes: More than 25 hiking and trekking, led by our French or English speaking guides and tour leaders, from the easiest to the most challenging, for 2 or 3 days to long treks of 10 to 20 days in ranges such as the Annapurnas, Manaslu, Gosaikunda & Langtang, the Everest region, or Kanchenjunga.
> More hidden and therefore less popular treks such as Mustang, Dolpo, Dudh Kunda & Pikey Peak, the east Rukum shaman region, Dhaulagiri, etc.
> Themed treks that combine walking and activities such as yoga, meditation or painting.
Note: All our guides receive annual first aid and altitude sickness prevention training from French mountain rescuers.

These circuits are made for the trekkers with all the levels, without considering the technical aspects, and includes at least 4 days of successive itinerant pedestrian steps ranging from an easy difficulty of 4-5 hr per day under 3000 m, to over a week with crossings of major Himalayan passes over 5000 m (7hr or more daily over several weeks). This covers the great classics such as the famous Everest Base Camp trek (in Nepal or Tibet) or the Annapurna trek. These itineraries include lodges for off-the-beaten tracks, trekking in remote areas of Bhutan or Nepal, in old-fashioned bivouacs or at home. Most of the hikes are designed far from any access roads; you will appreciate the professionalism, the attentive services, the discreet character of our devoted guides, and local teams.

Cultural Discoveries
> The Kathmandu Valley is an incomparable gem of temples, architecture, vibrant markets, colours, and unpredictable alleyways, in the ancient medieval cities of Kathmandu, Patan, Bhaktapur, and Kirtipur, as well as charming villages like Bandipur, Bungamati, Khokna, and Sankhu.
> Museums: The National Museum in Kathmandu, the Patan Museum, considered one of the most beautiful in Asia, and the Himalayan Museum in Pokhara.
> Spiritual sites such as the great stupas of Boudhanath and its Tibetan monasteries, Swayambhunath (The monkey temple), Pharping, and Namo Buddha, Pashupatinath (a cremation ground on the sacred Bagmati River) and of course Lumbini, the birthplace of Buddha.

If you are not planning for a long stay or hikes, these trips allow you to make the most of your time by focusing on culture and visiting the must-see destinations while learning all about them from our experienced cultural guides. They combine tours of classified sites to discover unusual places, easily accessible to all or adventure sports such as a jungle safari. Most of these activities are by vehicles while enjoying quality accommodation in comfortable resorts or immersions in homestays, where you learn about Nepali cultures and daily life.

Jungle
> At the foot of the Himalayas, Nepal is also a paradise for bird lovers. The country boasts several national parks in the Terai jungle, a region bordering India: Chitwan (crocodiles, rhinos), Koshi Tapu for migratory birds, and Bardya, where you can still spot a Bengal tiger. A beautiful and peaceful hike to relax from the sheer heights of the mountains.

Expeditions:
> Trekking peaks (5000 to 6,500 m above sea level) accessible to anyone in good health, motivated, and with some technical alpine experience: crampons, ice axes, ropes.
Pisang Peak, Lobuché Peak, Island Peak, Mera Peak, Chulu Peak etc.
> High mountains (over 6,000 m) are reserved for experienced mountaineers.

These trips require long stays which mostly include ascents of Himalayan peaks or crossings of difficult passes at high altitude with a limited requirement of technical equipment (use of crampons, fixed rope ...) and knowledge of the mountain. Base Camp can organize expeditions to trekking peaks such as Island Peak OR Chulu Far East as well as higher and more technical summits such as Tukuche, Baruntse, beautiful peaks or little-known view-points such as the Lapqi Tsochung in Tibet OR full-fledged expeditions to the prestigious 8000m peaks.

Pokhara and relaxation:
> For those seeking rest and tranquillity, Pokhara and Lake Pewa are an ideal vacation spot, offering day hikes and day trips for idyllic views of nearby Himalayan peaks. The more adventurous can try paragliding and more activities like Mountain flights, bungee jumping, Zip flyer,  Rafting in the Seti river, Boating in Phewa or Begnas lake.

And by motorbike?
> On a motorbike, the roads of Nepal, which are sometimes only roads in name, are an ideal playground for Enfield Himalayan trials, once you have mastered right and left, and random indicators. Rides accompanied by a mechanic, between the rice paddies of the mid-mountains or going up the Kali Gandhaki, the deepest gorges in the world, all the way to Mustang and the Tibetan border.
