Small Nepalese joys

“In Nepal, we love simple joys. On weekends when we are not working, we meet on the roof terrace of the house and share tea with the neighbour, the sisters, and the girlfriends.

We appreciate these moments of complicity between women! With spiced tea, we put oil on our hair, we savour the caresses of the sun. And we chat, we talk about life, about everything, about nothing….

Here we love these little festive rituals and besides we have many festivals, we celebrate everything! Pastries, Shiva, colours, the moon pain… and even chickpeas! All these festivals, secular or religious, allow us to meet, to party and to cook!

We can spend entire days making momos! While one prepares the meat, another manages the flour, rolls the dough, cuts it, still others decorate them before steaming them… it’s a team effort that connects us and connects us to the present moment!”

Words, anecdotes and inspirations collected from Rashmi and Jasmine from the BaseCampTrek agency.

The quality of the Nepalese presence, their communicative joy and their benevolent simplicity are often what the traveller remembers, whether they approach the highest peaks or wander between temples and no one comes back unscathed…
