Upper Mustang Motorcycle Adventure: Royal Enfield Himalayan Expedition

Upper Mustang Motorcycle Adventure: Royal Enfield Himalayan Expedition Upper Mustang, also known as the Kingdom of Lo, is an ancient Himalayan principality that remained isolated from the rest of the world for centuries. Located north of the Annapurna massif, near the Tibetan border, it was once part of the Tibetan kingdom of Ngari before being incorporated into Nepal in the 18th century. Its capital, Lo Manthang, founded in the 15th century, still preserves its ancient walls, historic Buddhist monasteries, and deeply rooted Tibetan traditions.

Culturally, the region is strongly influenced by Tibetan Buddhism, with numerous monasteries, chortens, prayer flags, and colorful festivals such as Tiji, celebrated each spring. The inhabitants, of Tibetan origin, have maintained a language, architecture, and way of life distinct from the rest of Nepal.

In terms of landscape, Upper Mustang is characterized by high-altitude deserts, ochre cliffs, deep canyons, and wind-swept plateaus—resembling Tibet more than the lush valleys of central Nepal. The striking contrasts between fertile valleys, snow-capped peaks, and cliffside hermit caves create a rare and mystical beauty, making Upper Mustang a true “Hidden Tibet” of Nepal.

Tiji Festival in Lo Manthang on May 16th.
This trip is more than just a unique encounter with the traditions of Upper Mustang, in a preserved culture. You will experience a rare moment in the heart of a medieval city.
You will immerse yourself in one of the most extraordinary cultural events in the Himalayas. Every spring, behind the walls of Lo Manthang, the ancient kingdom of Mustang is illuminated with colors, sacred dances, and exceptional spiritual energy: the Tiji Festival.
Masked monks perform ancestral rituals to celebrate the victory of good over the forces of chaos. Drums resonate, Tibetan horns rise into the pure air of the plateau, and the inhabitants adorn themselves in their finest traditional costumes.
